RAW HONEY FAQS

In easiest terms, ‘Raw Honey’ is described as honey “as it exists and gets produced in the beehives”. It is neither heated nor adulterated. Just a basic cleaning using a cloth mesh filter to remove honey wax and dead bees. On the other hand, commercially produced honey is processed, pasteurised and in most cases gets an addition of chemicals and preservatives which destroys the natural benefits and nutrients of honey. Even though it’s aesthetically more appealing to some customers, it doesn’t contain health benefits attributed to the natural honey. At Khalispur, we only provide 100% raw and unadulterated honey which is neither heated nor processed and hence all the beneficial enzymes and minerals are intact in it.

Since our honey is 100% raw, unprocessed & unadulterated, all the essential nutrients in the honey are preserved. Our honey is rich is antioxidants, enzymes and minerals including iron, zinc, potassium, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium and selenium. Vitamins found in honey include vitamin B6, thiamin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid and niacin. Simplistically calling, it’s a natural super food. Consuming real and raw honey on a regular basis will increase immunity, slow down ageing, boost vitality and vigor.

In principle, Honey can be stored indefinitely because it does not get spoilt by itself. The only precaution is to keep it away from moisture and direct sunlight. However, since our honey is raw and unprocessed (and thus with active enzymes), it can get crystallized over time and in colder weathers but this is perfectly fine as it is a natural process for all raw and natural honey.

Honey crystallization is a natural process for raw honey owing to the fact that it’s not processed. Processed honey, on the other hand doesn’t crystallize for a very long time. The crystallization of honey is widely misunderstood by the honey consumers. Many assume that crystallized honey is either spoiled or is impure. This isn’t the case. As a matter of fact; Real and raw honey crystallizes. The crystallization process is absolutely natural and spontaneous. Pure, raw and unheated honey has a natural tendency to crystallize over time with no effect on the honey other than color and texture. Infact, the crystallized honey actually preserves the flavor and quality characteristics of your honey. Internationally, many honey users prefer to use crystallized honey and hence it gets sold as a unique product out there. Having said that, if your honey has crystallized and if you prefer to bring it back to liquid state, just put the jar in warm water (not boiling) for some time and it will turn back into liquid form.

You don’t need to refrigerate your honey as it is best kept at room temperature to retain all its natural benefits. The cold temperature can affect the texture of the honey, making it thicker or even hard if kept in the fridge. Raw honey should be stored in room temperature, away from direct sunlight and it ‘should not’ be refrigerated

Raw honey, like pure olive oil, differs slightly from harvest to harvest, and from hive to hive. Colours and textures of each varietal will not be exactly the same for every jar. Also, raw honey crystalilzes over time; some honeys crystallize faster than others.

It is not recommended for infants whose immune systems are not fully developed, a process that occurs usually in the first year. It is not recommended for children to eat raw honey under one year of age.
